The original inspiration for this painting came from another painting entitled "Lady with a Parasol by a Stream" by the American Impressionist Theodore Wendel in 1889. I aspired to create a French landscape with apple trees in full bloom. From there I developed the chateau, taking elements from various estates, chateaus and manor houses that I have studied. The horses were added to bring life and to make the scene a bit more idyllic. The arched footbridge was incorporated to bring interest to the stream and the foreground. I reflected back on the many Impressionist paintings I have studied over the years and tried to bring together details which I thought would creatively enhance and add interest to this painting.
